Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Reciprocating Friction and Wear Tester

Our tribology laboratory features a custom-designed reciprocating testing machine that is available for use by our guest researchers. The unit is well-suited for oscillating sliding tests in which the path of movement is a few millimeters to a few centimeters in length. Small specimens and specimens containing thin films of coatings can be tested. Like the pin-on-disk machines, the reciprocating tester can be operated in a bell jar to control the atmosphere.
