Oak Ridge National Laboratory

High-Temperature Pin-on-disk System

This unit was custom built for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory by to investigate the friction and wear of high-temperature materials like ceramics at temperatures up to approximately 1000-degrees C. in a controlled atmosphere. Tests can also be conducted in air. Sliding may be done in a unidirectional or reciprocating mode (to form an arc). Normal and tangential forces are measured.
